Join us as we kick off our 50th Concert Season with a celebration that brings back to the Tri-County stage our founder and Music Director Emeritus, John R. Pandolfi. Re-creating that very first concert, Mr. Pandolfi has programmed selections that have become standards for the Tri-County Symphonic Band.

The concert will begin with Johann Strauss' "Einzugs March."  Veterans of Tri-County concerts will remember that Maestro Pandolfi would begin each concert with this venerable opus.  Highlights from the "Sound of Music" delights with excerpts from that classic Rodgers and Hammerstein musical.  "L'inglesina" (Little English Girl) is a wonderfully dynamic Italian March that has a lyrically prominent trumpet part.  Two pieces that are among Mr. Pandolfi's favorites focus the spolight on the varying styles that is the trademark of the Tri-County Symphonic Band.  "Bandology" by Eric Osterling is a contemporary march with syncopated figures and unexpected harmonies while the theme from the 1962 classic film "Lawrence of Arabia" gives us a look back at the musical score that won "Best Music" at the Oscars--one of seven Oscars won by the film.  All former Tri-County Symphonic Band members will be asked to join Mr. Pandolfi in the final two selections; "Prayer of Thanksgiving (We Gather Together)" and "The Stars and Stripes Forever."

Our special guest clarinet soloist is Sarah Purdy.  Ms. Purdy is a native of Plymouth, MA, a former Tri-County Music Association Summer Study Grant recipient and a current senior at Tabor Academy in Marion, MA. Ms. Purdy has sat principal clarinet in the Massachusetts All-State Orchestra (sophomore year), principal clarinet in the All-State Band (junior year) and the All-Eastern Honors Band last April in Baltimore, Maryland.  She toured Europe this past summer with the New England Conservatory Youth Philharmonic Orchestra. She will be performing Mozart's Clarinet Concerto, K. 622.
