George Dietzler was not only Music Director of the Tri-County Symphonic Band for many years, he also contributed a number of his own compositions to the band's library. A noted aficionado of German music, Mr. Dietzler offers three of his own pieces to the program. From the sweeping "Bavarian Dreams" to the ethereal "To the Peak of the Mountains" to the inspiring "Taunton March" Mr. Dietzler's works display a confident command of the concert band as a musical voice and display the multiple sonorities of the Tri-County Symphonic Band.
Violinist Jesse Holstein will join the Tri-County Symphonic Band to perform Max Bruch's "Violin Concerto No. 1 in G minor, Op. 26". This piece is an orchestral transcription of one of the more frequently performed concerti in the violin repertoire. As concertmaster of the New Bedford Symphony, Mr. Holstein is not only a virtuoso violinist, he is a musical leader in our community.
Mr. Dietzler's works and Mr. Holstein's solo is framed by two marches, one German and one American, and the beautifully rhapsodic "Trauersinfonie" of Richard Wagner.
